Simon Jordan gutted for Dele Alli amid behind-the-scenes ‘deterioration’ at Everton

Simon Jordan admitted it is “sad” to see the decline of Everton midfielder Dele Alli and that he maybe doesn’t love the game as much as he used to.

Alli, 27, has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the last fortnight, cutting his loan spell with the Turkish giants short to undergo surgery on an injury in the UK and subsequently being pictured on social media surrounded by laughing gas canisters.

The 27-year-old’s future at Everton remains up in the air with the Mirror [14 April] reporting that he’s got “one last shot at a career resurrection” with the Toffees with Dyche willing to give him another chance.

However, Jordan speaking in his column for the Daily Mail [20 April] has argued that the former Tottenham man has the wrong people around him which has led to his behind-the-scenes “deterioration”.

He said: “It’s sad to witness Dele Alli’s decline.

“He’s clearly got the wrong people around him but maybe he just doesn’t love the sport as he once did.

“There appeared to be a deterioration in his motivation when all he seemingly wanted to do was be a poster for Boohoo.”

Difficult

Jordan is absolutely right, it is really difficult to see such a gifted footballer decline in Dele Alli.

There are only so many factors that Alli’s decline in recent years can be attributed to.

Whether it’s laziness, lack of love for the game petering out, or a lack of motivation and confidence, the former Tottenham Hotspur man just has not been himself over the past few years and it’s a shame to see such an amazing talent go to waste.

Everton

When the 26-year-old moved to Everton under Frank Lampard, many thought that would have been the move to reignite his fire again, but it just hasn’t happened.

Alli is quickly becoming one of the most mentioned names in and around Goodison Park, and yet he’s barely played for the club. Many players have burst onto the scene at a young age like Alli, but not many have endured as dramatic a downfall as the former England international.

The midfielder just needs a slight kick to get his career up and running again, but whether or not that is at Everton remains to be seen. How he plans to move past this sorry state is up to him. The ball is in his court in trying to find his motivation again.
