Farhad Moshiri motives leave Finance Expert second guessing after Everton boardroom news

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has been left second guessing the motives of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri after reports emerged with potential changes in the Goodison Park boardroom.

It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Denise Barrett-Baxendale and Bill Kenwright are under threat, although a move to get rid has been delayed to attract new investors with seats on the board.

The finance expert admitted that any new investor would certainly want a seat on the board at Everton, although the contrasting news emerging makes things “really tricky”.

“This is where you are trying to second guess motives,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“It just doesn’t quite stack up at the minute. What we don’t know there is who seats are they and how does that work? What we do know is that for the most part, if you are an investor that has serious considerations in that club, you would want a meaningful stake and a seat on the board.

You almost have to accommodate that and then it is up to Moshiri and the rest of the board to look at how that happens and it just doesn’t quite stack up. You have absolutely no idea where the motives are at, because there is so much more going on, it is really tricky to see.

As a new investor coming, as an added incentive, you would want a spot on the board for sure.”

Simple is not a word that applies at Everton Football Club, everyone knows that.

The news of Kenwright and Barrett-Baxendale being under threat would be welcomed, but only if Moshiri is in that category as well, with a complete change needed.

Maybe that is coming though after reports in Italy on Monday 24 April suggested that 777 Partners are close to a full takeover of the club, hopefully not lost in translation [Marco Conterio].

All eyes are certainly on that one.
