Chris Sutton predicts Everton v Newcastle United in Premier League

Chris Sutton has predicted the outcome of Everton’s crucial Premier League encounter against Newcastle United on Thursday 27 April, as featured in his Daily Mail column [Page 68, 25 April].

He believes there will be further trouble in store for the Toffees, backing the Magpies to secure a 0-2 victory at Goodison Park.

The resolve of Sean Dyche’s team will be severely tested against a rampant Newcastle, flying high after they dominated Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Sutton believes that the strength and momentum of Eddie Howe’s team will prove to be too strong.

“After that terrific dismantling of Tottenham, Newcastle do not want to waste the chance in front of them,” he said.

“A top-four finish awaits and I don’t think they will trip up at Goodison. Not against an Everton side who struggle to score.”

The going gets tough

A difficult situation deteriorated at the weekend with results going against Everton, meaning the club dropped into the relegation zone.

The point gained at Crystal Palace could prove to be a decent one but that will only be the case if more are to follow.

The Premier League survival bid will intensify, starting on Thursday in what will be a very difficult game and a significant task to secure any points.

Dyche and the team will need full support from the Evertonians inside the stadium as they set out to get a result, in what is the first of three remaining fixtures at Goodison, this season, with another three to follow on the road.

Leicester City and Leeds United are within one point of reach at 17th and 16th place, respectively, in a gap that cannot grow if top-flight football is to be maintained for the Toffees beyond this season.
