Tottenham frontrunners to sign Jordan Pickford as Everton strike informal agreement

Tottenham are frontrunners to sign Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who has an informal agreement to leave the club if they are relegated, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS journalist noted that there is no relegation clause in Pickford’s contract, with a mutual agreement in place instead.

The Toffees are in real danger of dropping down to the Championship, with Everton currently sitting inside the Premier League’s relegation zone.

“I still wouldn’t rule out a Premier League club moving for Jordan Pickford, even though he’s signed a new deal until 2027 with no relegation clause in it,” Jacobs wrote for Caught Offside.

“There is still an informal agreement if Everton go down that Pickford can leave. Spurs were always a frontrunner, but we’ll have to wait and see now what their new manager thinks.”

There will be a lot of moving parts in any deal involving the Everton and England number one, who is enjoying another strong individual campaign amid his club’s struggles.

The Toffees would undoubtedly be even worse off had they not had Pickford in between the sticks this season.

Even with his contract until 2027, it seems highly unlikely that he will drop down a division with his club, should they go down. Some players are simply too good for the Championship, and Pickford is one of them.

However, it not only remains to be seen where the Merseyside club will be playing next season, but also what comes of potential suitors Tottenham.

The North London outfit are in the midst of their own struggles on and off the pitch, particularly after sacking interim manager Christian Stellini.

There will be plenty of movement at behind the scenes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, with goalkeeper one area certain to be discussed due to the ageing Hugo Lloris.
