Luke Edwards details Anthony Gordon team news at Newcastle United ahead of clash v Everton

Anthony Gordon isn’t expected to start for Newcastle United when Eddie Howe’s side play Everton at Goodison Park on Thursday night, according to Luke Edwards.

The Telegraph journalist reports that it’s “unlikely” the 22-year-old winger will return to Howe’s starting line-up on his return to Goodison Park.

Gordon left Everton on a sour note in January after refusing to turn up to training and Edwards claims that “he will have to control himself emotionally” if he gets a chance to play at Goodison in the black and white stripes of Newcastle.

Hostile

It’ll be a big test of Gordon’s character to see how he does if he does play against Everton on Thursday night.

We don’t want to say that the winger was hounded out of Goodison Park by the fans but the Merseyside-born attacker certainly didn’t endear himself to the supporters in his final months at the club.

Since making a £40million move to Newcastle in January, it’s been a rough ride for Gordon, who’s failed to contribute directly to a goal, had to make do with a spot on the bench more often than not and has also been spotted throwing his toys out of the pram when substituted off by Howe.

Everton

Gordon’s a spoilt brat of a footballer and at least he’s getting some kind of a reality check at Newcastle because he’s not the top dog there – not that he ever was at Everton – and him spending time on the bench will make him realise that he’s not got a god-given right to start every game.

At Goodison, Gordon’s attitude let him down.

It may also be the case for him at Newcastle but the way he responds to the Blues crowd on Thursday night will say a lot about him.

We think he could lose his head a bit if he plays.
