Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure risked serious knee trauma in Tottenham Hotspur clash – Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure faced a serious risk of getting a knee injury from Harry Kane’s tackle in the 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur draw, claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

Spurs visited Goodison Park on 4 April and both teams ended the game with 10 men with Doucoure getting a red for retaliating to Kane nearly causing him an injury.

The injury expert believes it’s hard to ascertain how long the Toffees midfielder would be out for had Kane caught him in the wrong spot but that it would’ve been a dangerous one.

Former Toffees player Michael Ball stated that the Spurs forward could’ve damaged Doucoure’s ligament and that VAR should’ve seen it and sent him off for it.

Speaking exclusively with Goodison News after reviewing the footage and listening to Ball’s take on the situation, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said, “I don’t put too much stock into how long VAR looks at things but that’s a whole different conversation.

“If Doucoure did get caught there, particularly with his leg planted, then there’s definitely a serious risk for a knee injury.

“How serious? Hard to say as that depends on the level of force, angle, etc.”

The England forward was just given a yellow card possibly for his initial foul but was not given his marching orders like Doucoure.

Michael Keane scored a long ranger to secure a point for the hosts and that was a goal that fans will be remembering for a long time should the Toffees manage to stay up.
