Jason Cundy shares ‘I’m not sure’ Sean Dyche verdict at Everton after ‘terrible’ loss v Newcastle United

Jason Cundy is “not sure” that Everton have improved since Sean Dyche took over in the dugout at Goodison Park.

The Toffees enjoyed some favourable results in the manager’s early stages on Merseyside, including a win over Arsenal in his first match.

But a very poor run of recent form has left Everton sitting 19th in the Premier League table, with Newcastle defeating the Toffees 4-1 on Thursday (27 April).

Everton

“I’m not sure they have improved at all under Sean Dyche,” Cundy said live on talkSPORT on Thursday (27 April). “I know Frank Lampard has taken a bit of stick for when he was at Everton, and you could argue that’s fair because he’s having a tough time at Chelsea right now.

“But Sean Dyche has just not had the managerial bounce you thought he would. He’s an experienced man, knows the bottom of the table, knows how to get teams out. I know Burnley went down last season, but you could argue if it was him or not.

“But either way, he is in there now and he has got to take some responsibility. That is a terrible result, terrible performance, and it doesn’t get any better for them.”

Desperate times

The Toffees really are in a bad way, with the 4-1 home loss to the Magpies reinforcing the major struggle that the team currently finds itself in.

The defeat will be particularly felt given that it came at Goodison Park, with Everton fans having brought the noise with immense support before and during the match.

But that feeling was not reciprocated by the home team, who were simply brushed aside by a very talented and very attacking Newcastle side.

The result has piled the pressure on Dyche and his players further, with the club having just five games left to save their season and avoid the dreaded drop.

They only just managed to avoid relegation to the Championship last time out, but not much has changed this time around, with a huge grey cloud currently hanging over Goodison Park.

Given how tight things are at the bottom of the table and indeed their current form, the Toffees will most certainly be relying on favours from other teams in the weeks to come.
