Jim White reacts to ‘unbelievable’ Everton turn of events as Martin Keown blasts former club on talkSPORT

TalkSPORT pundit Martin Keown blasted the “terrible” Everton defending in their damaging 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Thursday evening [27 April].

The Toffees’ quest to secure Premier League football for next season took another sorry and “unbelievable” turn as Sean Dyche’s men fell to yet another disappointing loss and performance on home turf.

Goals from Callum Wilson (2), Joelinton and Murphy meant Everton stayed rooted to the bottom three in the Premier League two points from safety and needing to pull off a miracle in their next five games to save their English top-flight status once again.

And Jim White and Keown could not hold back in their scathing criticism of the Everton performance live on talkSPORT [28 April].

White asked the former Everton footballer: “Martin, did you watch the Everton game last night?”

Keown responded by saying: “Well, I was pinging around Jim from match to match and it was total capitulation from Everton, quite stunning, fans exiting the stadium, Isak’s dribble and run, it was terrible defending.”

White then responded in disbelief, saying: “Unbelievable!”

Poor, terrible

What a stupendous run from Isak for Newcastle’s fourth as if the Everton defenders weren’t there. It was a training exercise and Dyche will be absolutely livid at how tepid and weak his defenders were all evening.

Another dreadful performance from his men at Goodison Park, where they are expected to pick up points in this gruelling relegation battle. Everton can only have themselves to blame though, as the Magpies enjoyed the freedom of Merseyside.

Everton

Isak is a player blessed with amazing quality but to allow him to roam so free in the box and calmly slot the ball into Murphy’s path was so poor and indeed terrible from Dyche’s apparently trusted defence and further highlights how much trouble Everton are in down near the bottom.

It’s now six games without a win for the Toffees which makes you wonder where their next win is coming from. Two points from safety may seem so small right now, but when you’re struggling to pick up results within these circumstances, the hope of safety begins to dramatically decline.

Everton are in dire trouble right now, and their quest towards Premier League safety is looking near-on impossible with every bad performance and result. Get your act together boys!
