Jim White shares image of Everton fan in ‘despair’ after 4-1 thrashing v Newcastle at Goodison Park

Jim White has shared an image of an Everton fan in “despair” at Goodison Park after the 4-1 thrashing to Newcastle on Thursday night (27 April).

Sean Dyche’s side capitulated in embarrassing style against the Magpies, gifting up three goals within just nine minutes of second-half action.

The loss leaves the Toffees in 19th position in the Premier League on 28 points with just five games of their season remaining.

Everton

Taking to Twitter after the full-time whistle (27 April), talkSPORT host White shared a split image of the Newcastle team celebrating the individual brilliance of Alexander Isak and a disgruntled Everton fan venting his frustrations.

“Joy and despair at Goodison,” he wrote.

Championship looming

This was the performance of a Championship side in waiting.

Although Everton looked bright for the first 20 minutes without actually creating any clear-cut chances, the way they rolled over and let Newcastle run riot as the game progressed was unacceptable.

Defensive error after defensive error down the right flank from Ben Godfrey gifted the Magpies a ridiculous amount of chances, while the midfield resembled a bagel instead of a flat three at times.

Dyche has some job on his hands to pick up the players following this battering and restore confidence ahead of the clash against relegation six-pointer against Leicester City next Monday.

Some tough love might be needed over the coming days to whip the players up into shape after this tough watch, with such a pivotal clash waiting on the horizon.

The Goodison Park faithful were on their way out after 85 minutes, and you can’t really blame them.
