Everton plan emerges for doomsday with Premier League relegation update
Everton started planning for the doomsday scenario of relegation from the Premier League as early as last summer, according to The Telegraph.
The newspaper has reported on its website that the Toffees started to include relegation clauses in the contracts of new signings, with the likes of Amadou Onana arriving over the summer.
It is said that while changes have been made to the policy, many of the existing squad do not have relegation clauses in their current deals should relegation happen.

Jordan Pickford signed a new contract recently worth up to £150,000-a-week, with no update on any clauses there with the likes of Richarlison moved on before this season too.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina are just two of the very-high earners at the club still, with Andre Gomes still having one more year left on his deal when he returns from his loan at Lille.
Sources told The Telegraph that new signings being given a relegation clause has created a strange scenario in which some players are facing pay cuts, and some are not.

Smart?
Kevin Thelwell arrived at Goodison Park over the summer, and it looks as though he was stuck in the mud instantly with things needing to be solved immediately.
Havgin no relegation clauses in players’ contracts now is suicidal, especially in the Premier League where the money is so high, but so is the risk of relegation.
Look at Leicester and West Ham United this season, both clubs have been stuck in the middle of the fight to avoid the drop, despite both playing in Europe within the last five years.
Everton have been on a downward spiral for quite some time now, so the lack of planning is quite frankly embarrassing when looking at the squad.
These players are on a lot of money, many more than they deserve given how they have performed recently, so it should be a given that these clauses are included.
Thankfully that is changing slightly, but it looks as though a large chunk of the players are still not facing that dreaded pay cut and that could hurt Everton immensely.
