Martin Keown shares relegation prediction ahead of ‘massive’ Everton Premier League clash v Leicester City

BBC pundit Martin Keown believes the loser of the “massive” Premier League relegation six-pointer clash between Everton and Leicester at the King Power on Monday [1 May] could go down.

The Toffees’ quest to secure their Premier League status for next season took another sorry turn as Sean Dyche’s men fell to yet another damaging 4-1 loss and performance against Newcastle United on Thursday [27 April].

The result meant Everton stayed rooted to the bottom three in the Premier League two points from safety and needing to pull off a miracle in their next five games to save their English top-flight status once again.

Ahead of Monday’s pivotal relegation decider between the two clubs occupying the bottom three, former Everton defender Keown believes with the fixtures getting so tough in the coming weeks, the loser of the match could suffer relegation at the end of the season.

He said on BBC Football Focus [29 April]: “I think the game between Leicester and Everton on Monday is absolutely massive.

“I think whoever loses that goes down. When you look at the fixtures both teams have to play, it’s getting quite tough.”

Last-chance territory

Everton suffered yet another torrid and dire capitulation against Newcastle United, especially after starting the game so well, but it’s become a regular theme of their season so far which will be worrying Dyche ahead of a tough set of fixtures to come.

The Toffees are desperately in the last-chance territory now, as the relegation picture gets ever so clearer and clearer with every passing defeat. Everton fans will need no reminders of the damage it could have on the club in the long term, with talks of administration being mentioned.

It’s now six games without a win for the Toffees which makes you wonder where their next win is coming from. Two points from safety may seem so small right now, but when you’re struggling to pick up results within these circumstances, the hope of safety begins to dramatically decline.

Everton are in dire trouble right now, and their quest towards Premier League safety is looking near-on impossible with every bad performance and result. Get your act together boys!
