Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd blasts Everton players live on air after 4-1 loss v Newcastle United
Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd blasted the Everton players live on air for their “disjointed” performance in their damaging 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Thursday [27 April].
In what was a crucial contest in the Toffees’ quest to secure their Premier League status for next season, Sean Dyche’s men fell to yet another damaging loss and performance on home turf.
Goals from Callum Wilson (2), Joelinton and Murphy meant the Toffees stayed rooted to the bottom three in the Premier League two points from safety and Boyd could not hold back in his criticism of Everton’s “capitulation” and lack of control.
Speaking live on air for Sky Sports News [via Football Daily, 29 April, 12:30 pm], he said: “They had no control over the game, you look at them and everyone can say they’re working hard but they’re sprinting to the ball, to get throw-ins, the players are all disjointed.
“When you want to bring an energy to the pitch, you’ve got to control it and you look at Everton and you think yeah the fans will get behind them but I actually think it’s hindering them at this moment in time because there is bad habits amongst the players because they feel we need to get after them but you need control.
“You go 1-0 down and all of a sudden you just capitulate, it’s worrying.”
No plan
Sean Dyche has been known to work miracles when under pressure after the tremendous job he did at Burnley in previous years, but even this Everton job looks far from him as his players simply do not have the tools to navigate their way out of trouble this time around.
The fact that they’ve tasted three wins under his management so far is even a surprise as the club are just playing on pure energy and no control and having to rely on the likes of Alex Iwobi, Amadou Onana and Dwight McNeil for invention which, when facing a relegation dogfight it just isn’t sustainable.

Boyd is absolutely right in that much of the Everton football right now is very disjointed and considering the tough fixtures they’ve got coming up, their chances of beating the drop look increasingly bleak by the week.
Monday’s game against Leicester City is absolutely vital and a defeat at the King Power could well resign them to Premier League relegation as you really cannot predict where their next wins are coming from with games still to come against Manchester City and Brighton.
