Andy Dunn: Everton to avoid ‘apocalyptic disaster’ as Premier League relegation battle takes new twist

Sunday Mirror journalist Andy Dunn doesn’t think it would be an “apocalyptic disaster” for Everton to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

Going into Monday’s must-win clash with Leicester City, Sean Dyche’s men are 19th in the Premier League table and two points shy of safety.

A win over Leicester would see them move out of the drop zone but defeat will mean the Toffees are one step closer to the Championship.

Everton

Dunn, however, doesn’t think it would be that bad if the Blues went down.

Writing in the Sunday Mirror (page 69, 30 April), Dunn said: “After the capitulation against Newcastle United, another reminder for Everton and that going down to the Championship and winning some football matches would not be an apocalyptic disaster.”

Deluded

Dunn does a lot of columns in the newspapers and online – how has he missed the fact that we’d sink into financial oblivion if we went down?

Guess what, it would be very much a disaster for the Blues to be relegated because of the amount of money they’re paying on contracts and the lack of relegation clauses.

The Daily Mail reported on 1 April how Everton would have to pay a loan of £150million if they are relegated with the club’s accounts revealing how bad the problems are behind the scenes at Goodison Park.

Dunn seems to somehow be blissfully unaware of this. Or he’s a Kopite.

It could get so bad that all the senior players need to be sold and we then rely on loanees and academy players next season to try and get us promoted again.

That simply wouldn’t happen.

Dunn seems to think we’d go down, keep the likes of Demarai Gray, Jordan Pickford, Amadou Onana and co and start thrashing the likes of Swansea, QPR and Cardiff.

No. We could go down again.

Complete and utter delusion.
