Everton: Sky Sports pundit reveals disappointment in Sean Dyche over Ellis Simms ahead of Leicester clash

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has expressed his disappointment not to see Ellis Simms used more for Everton after the striker’s first goal for the club at Chelsea.

The 22-year-old came off the bench to score a dramatic late leveller at Stamford Bridge on 18 March, suggesting he might be part of the answer to the flagging Toffees attack in the relegation battle.

But he has only seen one start in a flat defeat at Manchester United on 8 April since, and just 35 minutes combined action in the other four matches, so the former Toffees striker Campbell would like to see a lot more of one of his successors under Sean Dyche as they head to Leicester on Monday night (1 May).

Everton

The Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Goodison News: “Yeah I would like to see more of him. I think he carries a threat.

“I think his size alone is going to cause problems, and he’s quick, he can run over the top.

“Look, I’m not the manager, but I know forwards.

“I know somebody like him who’s hungry, yeah he lacks experience of course, but when you don’t have goal threats in your team you need one.

“I am disappointed to be fair to not see him used a lot more, I am.

“But listen, it’s up to Sean Dyche, he makes that decision.

“You just never know, in the last few games coming up now, they’re going to need all hands to the pump.

“So hopefully he’ll get used a lot more.”

Everton

Everton face Leicester in a huge clash in the relegation battle, after all other teams in the bottom six lost at the weekend.

A rare away win at the King Power, as was secured in the previous relegation battle a year ago next week (8 May) would lift the chances of survival significantly, especially with tough games coming up.

Getting the fight back in their own hands would be a major psychological boost, and Simms may make a telling impact in the final weeks if he is given the chance.

Campbell knows what scoring goals for Everton takes so if the former Sunderland loanee can follow in his footsteps there might be hope yet.
