Chris Sutton believes Everton are in ‘massive trouble’ and tips players to jump ship if relegated

Chris Sutton believes Everton are in “massive trouble” after their 2-2 draw against Leicester City and has predicted several players to jump ship if the club are relegated this season.

The Toffees remained 19th in the Premier League after their four-goal thriller at the King Power Stadium on Monday night (1 May), sitting just one point off Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club (1 May, 38:00), Sutton issued a damning verdict for Sean Dyche’s side, who travel to face Brighton next Monday (8 May) before hosting Manchester City at Goodison Park (14 May).

“I think they’re in massive trouble,” he said.

“I thought they had to win tonight [against Leicester]. They have a really tricky run-in, so I think they are bang in trouble.

“They are building the new stadium but from a players’ point of view we all know what happens when a team gets relegated, they will all want to jump ship and play at the highest level possible.

“The fact of the matter is they haven’t performed well enough this season and that’s why they’re in this position.”

Everton

Close as ever

Although Everton took a point home from the King Power Stadium, they may come to rue the missed opportunities they had in the latter stages of the game, with Leicester goalkeeper Daniel Iversen in inspired form.

Despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin-Lewin getting his name back on the scoresheet and his side showing plenty of promise, the draw doesn’t really do Dyche any good in their fight for survival, still sitting behind their main rivals Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and the Foxes.

In games such as Monday night, you really need to take your chances when they arrive.

Unfortunately for Everton, they failed to do so and now face an uphill struggle to get any points from their next two matches, with the Seagulls and Pep Guardiola’s side posing very tough tests.

It has started looking like the club’s Premier League status could come down to the final two games of the season against Wolves and Bournemouth.
