Jarrad Branthwaite to return to Everton after loan spell at PSV Eindhoven, permanent deal too expensive

Jarrad Branthwaite will return to Everton this summer after his loan at PSV Eindhoven after his permanent transfer was seen as “unfeasible”.

The Toffees loaned out Branthwaite at the start of the season and he has gone on to become a regular starter under Ruud van Nistelrooy, helping them to win the Dutch Cup recently against Ajax.

But with Everton looking for a big fee to let the academy graduate leave permanently, PSV have now accepted that he will leave according to Voetbal Premier (3 May).

“The permanent recruitment of Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly unfeasible,” they wrote (3 May).

“Provided no new developments take place, the Englishman will return to Everton after this season.”

Sensible

That’s an excellent decision from the board to ensure that we get top dollar for our best players and Branthwaite has now established himself as one of the better defenders at the club.

Considering the issues the team have had defensively this year, it’s pretty crazy to think that Frank Lampard didn’t think Branthwaite was good enough to play for us.

But he’s young, great on the ball, good aerially and now has plenty of top flight experience so would be a great asset to the squad next season.

Obviously if we end up getting relegated that’s a big problem and the chances are that we will sell him on to generate cash and ensure we’re still able to operate.

But even if he does leave we can’t allow it to happen for a discount price, and if PSV aren’t willing to stump up the cash then that’s their loss.

There are plenty of interested parties likely to step in and pay up instead.
