Seamus Coleman could still miss the rest of Everton season with knee injury despite positive scan results

Seamus Coleman could still miss the rest of the season for Everton despite receiving positive news about his knee injury after a scan, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Toffees skipper was stretchered off in the 2-2 draw with Leicester on Monday (1 May) following a late tackle that saw him injure his knee.

Coleman released a statement on Wednesday (3 May) revealing that he has suffered no ACL damage meaning the worst fears have been for nothing, but a report suggested he could still miss the remaining four games of the season with the issue.

“However, it remains to be seen whether the right-back will play any further part in Everton’s battle to avoid a first Premier League relegation, with the Blues facing games against Brighton, Manchester City, Wolves and Bournemouth between now and May 28,” they wrote (3 May).

Problem

When Coleman was out recently with a hamstring problem the team suffered badly with performances and slipped further down the table.

His return on Monday saw a much improved performance, and he was arguably the best player on the pitch until his injury.

Nathan Patterson did well when he came back into the fold but Sean Dyche has previously expressed concern about him being Premier League ready and that means he’s not sure to be involved in the final four games.

If he is then we’ll certainly be in a better place than if Ben Godfrey or Mason Holgate are forced into the role, but the absence of Coleman can only be seen as a negative.

It’s such a pivotal and crucial point of the season, so going into it without your captain is not ideal. But the players now have an extra reason and motivational point to push over the line, and that’s to do it for Seamus.
