Everton in hunt to sign Liverpool star James Milner as he heads for Anfield exit

Everton are interested in signing James Milner with the Liverpool midfielder set to depart Anfield in the summer, according to 90min.

90min claim (4 May) that the 37-year-old won’t be offered a new deal with the Reds and that has “opened the door” for other clubs to wrestle into the frame.

It’s believed Brighton are close to reaching an agreement with Milner, but Everton, Leeds and Nottingham Forest are all monitoring the situation.

The relegation-threatened trio are eager for the Liverpool veteran to wait until the end of the season to assess his options.

Wow

This has certainly come as a shock, and if we can look past the rivalry, Milner is about as experienced as you can get in the Premier League. He’s played for some of the biggest clubs in the country, keeps himself in optimal condition, and has had bundles of success.

There’s a lot to like about a move for the 37-year-old, but it appears Brighton are leading the way at present. And who can really blame him for heading to Sussex? The Seagulls are one of the most innovative clubs in the country and seemingly improve year on year.

The board at the Amex would’ve been eying Milner for some time and there’s a high probability that he turns out to be a success if he does move to Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

As for Everton, transfer planning will be firmly on the back burner. It’s extremely hard for Sean Dyche to plan ahead at present, with Premier League survival being the club’s main priority.
