Chris Sutton wowed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin on BT Sport for Everton v Brighton

Chris Sutton hailed the impact of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the Everton striker played a pivotal role in his team’s opening goal against Brighton.

The England international was able to put the ball on a plate for Abdoulaye Doucoure to make no mistake from close range, to give the Toffees a dream start in the first minute of the Premier League clash.

The midfielder went on to score a second goal, only for another counter-attack to give Everton a 0-3 lead at half-time at the Amex Stadium.

Sutton reacted to the blistering start in the game which will have ramifications at both ends of the table.

“It was a wonderful piece of skill by Dominic Calvert-Lewin,” he said on BT Sport 1 [17:32].

“Albeit a mistake by Lewis Dunk.”

Everton

Unbelievable start

What a start to the game for the Toffees, it is one that they would not have dreamed of.

Yes, they would have had aspirations to get a result and to push for a win but to have such a lead at half-time, is a position they have not been in for a very long time.

The counter-attack setup deployed by Dyche is proving to be a very effective method to suit the squad that he currently has at his disposal.

Over the last few games, the manager has gone with a tried and trusted group, with few changes unless absolutely required.

Whilst the next game, at home to Manchester City, will bring its own particular challenges, the final two fixtures against Wolves and Bournemouth, respectively, represent opportunities for Everton to secure points if they can replicate the first-half display against Brighton.

Do that and Dyche will be well on his way to deliver Premier League football at Goodison Park for another season.

In other Everton news, journalist Neil Moxley was amazed by what may have saved the Toffees from relegation.
