Ally McCoist stunned by ‘unplayable’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin live on talkSPORT after Everton win v Brighton
Ally McCoist has admitted he could believe his eyes watching “unplayable” Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the first half of their 5-1 win against Brighton on Monday (8 May).
Sean Dyche’s side served up a five-star performance at the AMEX Stadium, moving up to 17th in the Premier League table and two points clear of the relegation zone in the process.
Despite not getting his name on the scoresheet, Calvert-Lewin was a constant threat leading the line for Everton, drawing both Brighton centre-backs into bookings within the opening 25 minutes and getting the assist for the opening goal after just 35 seconds.

“I mean it was amazing. I could not believe what I was watching,” McCoist told talkSPORT Breakfast (9 May, 6:09am).
“I’ve got to say, I know he didn’t score but for the first 45 minutes, I thought Calvert-Lewin was pretty much unplayable.
“I thought he was amazing.”

Back to his best
Calvert-Lewin was back to vintage best on the south coast, providing a focal point for long balls but also equally happy to run aggressively into the channels and test Brighton in a foot race.
This was the fittest the England international has looked in over 12 months of action for the Toffees, and it looks like Dyche’s plans to nurse him back from injury at an agonisingly slow rate since his last injury setback is now starting to pay off.
Although the striker didn’t get the goal he deserved, Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster were run ragged in the opening 45 minutes before the Seagulls made numerous changes and grew into the game in the second half.
Manchester City’s defence will know they have their hands full this weekend at Goodison Park, and hopefully, this purple patch of form for Calvert-Lewin can continue for the remaining three games of the season.
What a performance from the 26-year-old, and long may it continue.
