Stan Collymore stunned by Everton in new jibe v Brighton in Premier League

Stan Collymore delivered an “Immense” verdict on Everton as they stunned Brighton 5-1 in their Premier League clash on Monday 08 May.

After Dwight McNeil pounced to score his first, and Everton’s fourth goal of the game, Collymore reacted with a back-handed compliment toward Sean Dyche’s side.

The decisive 1-5 victory means the Toffees climb up to 16th place in the table, at least temporarily, as well as providing a timely boost in their battle to beat the drop.

The former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool striker responded to the action on his Twitter account.

“Immense counterattack from Everton. Not often you say that.”

Setup for success

Given the recent struggles of Everton’s season, you can see where he is coming from but on the basis of the game at the Amex Stadium, it was more of the same.

Right from the first minute when they took the lead through Abdoulaye Doucoure’s close-range finish, it was clear to see how Dyche’s men were set-up.

A very defensive six gave license for their four attackers to roam with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Dwight McNeil getting forward to support Dominic Calvert-Lewin to great effect.

Whilst the third goal of the game carried fortune, there was nothing lucky about this resounding win for Everton, especially as Dyche confirmed after the game how they had prepared to take on the in-form Seagulls.

After this, anything can happen in what will be a thrilling climax to the relegation battle in the Premier League but from a Goodison perspective, the challenge just got a little less daunting.
