James Garner to be axed, Amadou Onana to start – Everton predicted XI v Manchester City

Sean Dyche looks likely to make at least one change to his Everton starting lineup when they take on Manchester City on Sunday.

The Toffees claimed a huge 5-1 win over Brighton on Monday (8 May) to move out of the relegation zone with three games left of the season.

But as they prepare to take on Pep Guardiola’s treble-chasing side at Goodison Park, Dyche has some decisions to make about his starting lineup after the most recent performance.

Jordan Pickford is the number one goalkeeper and has continued to show why he’s first-choice for his country too with some excellent performances and his leadership will be needed even more now.

Seamus Coleman is out for the season with a knee injury picked up against Leicester, but Nathan Patterson shone in his place last time out and should keep his place.

The boss also made a surprising decision to recall Yerry Mina to the side and the Colombian was excellent in place of Michael Keane, and his physicality could be crucial to keeping Erling Haaland silent.

James Tarkowski remains first-choice and will start alongside him, while Vitalii Mykolenko has reclaimed his place as the team’s left-back.

In midfield Idrissa Gueye has been excellent in the holding role and should continue with no signs of slowing down despite his age, and Abdoulaye Doucoure has continued his excellent form since returning from his three-game suspension.

But alongside them this game seems like the perfect time to reintroduce Amadou Onana to the team having been restricted to appearances from the substitutes bench recently, meaning £15m summer signing James Garner is likely to drop out of the side.

In attack Everton have been far better since the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the number nine and with no issues with his fitness, he will undoubtedly keep his place in the side.

Alex Iwobi’s energy and pace on the right wing has been essential to keeping the side strong defensively and a threat on the counter, while Dwight McNeil is in the form of his career so both players will keep their place in the team.
