Yerry Mina decision to leave Everton made weeks ago in Goodison Park transfer news – journalist

Yerry Mina agreed with Everton that he would leave the Merseyside club in the summer transfer window weeks ago, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Mina, 28, has remained largely unused since the arrival of Sean Dyche but has now started the club’s last two Premier League games ahead of both Michael Keane and Conor Coady.

The Colombian centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and it has been reported that Turkish giants Besiktas have made him their number one summer target, with a free transfer on the cards. [Fanatik, 11 May]

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: “I think a decision was made behind the scenes a few weeks ago from both sides that this would probably be his [Mina’s] last season at Everton and that he’d be happy to seek a new challenge, and the club would be happy to let him go.”

Shame

Mina has always been a mercurial presence in the Everton ranks since his arrival at the club in 2018, being able to pull off a world-class performance one week but crumble the very next.

He has all the attributes to make a top centre-back, with strength, height and a decent turn of pace, making him a tough opponent on his day.

As well as this, Mina made his name in Colombian colours for having an eye for goal from set pieces.

However, despite all of these strengths on paper, the Toffees haven’t seen them anywhere near often enough to justify the £27million fee paid after his impressive Russia World Cup outings.

If Everton manage to survive relegation this season, they are in desperate need of a major overhaul, and this can start with the defender.

Considering his sky-high wages, getting Mina off the books could be the start of a summer exodus at Goodison Park.
