Analysis expert shares likely points total needed for Everton to avoid Premier League relegation

Everton have been told the points total needed to avoid relegation from the Premier League by Gracenote.

Gracenote Head of Analysis Simon Gleave believes 34 points is the total whereby it becomes more likely for a club to stay up than go down.

The Toffees currently have 32 points heading into their final two matches of the season, with Leicester City the most likely club to be relegated after their 3-0 loss to Liverpool on Monday (15 May).

“Leicester City’s defeat means that they are now the most likely to go down of the quartet of clubs still battling against relegation,” said Gleave, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“34 points remains the total where it becomes more likely to stay up than go down.”

Difficult task ahead

Southampton were the first club to suffer the dreaded drop to the Championship early this month, with Leicester now looking increasingly likely of following in their footsteps.

The worrying run of form from the Foxes will provide the likes of Everton and Leeds United with much-needed confidence at this crucial stage of the campaign.

Given how things stand, it seems that it will be the Toffees and the Whites fighting it out to avoid that third and final relegation spot.

Everton are currently one point ahead of Leeds, and have the more favourable fixtures as they take on Wolves and Bournemouth in their final two matches. The two clubs sit 13th and 14th in the Premier League table respectively.

The Whites meanwhile must take on West Ham, who are 15th, and Tottenham, who are currently in seventh.

Goal difference could, of course, come into play, with Sean Dyche’s men on -24 and Sam Allardyce’s side on -25. It is Dean Smith’s Leicester who have the upper hand in this regard with a goal difference of -18.
