Everton supporters shoot themselves in foot with bizarre message after Manchester City loss
Everton fans have been through plenty of downs this season, with a rare up coming in the recent 5-1 thrashing of Brighton.
But they were sent crashing back down to earth by Manchester City on Sunday (14 May), with Pep Guardiola’s side running out 3-0 winners in their Premier League clash at Goodison Park.
Toffees fans weren’t expecting much going into the game, given both their struggles this season and how their opponents were on a phenomenal run of form, but they still urged their players on with constant encouragement throughout the 90 minutes.

That has been a constant this season, even with all of the distractions off the pitch, so credit must be given to the Everton faithful in that regard.
Fans of other clubs would have certainly given up at this point, with the issues with owner Farhad Moshiri and results on the pitch seeing the Toffees heavily involved in another relegation battle.
But a section of Toffees supporters have shot themselves in the foot with the award they sent Manchester City star Erling Haaland following Sunday’s clash.

The Norwegian scored his club’s second goal of the afternoon with a well-placed header, with that effort representing his 36th Premier League goal of the season.
He has now extended his phenomenal tally, having broken the record for most goals in a Premier League season with his strike against West Ham earlier this month.
And despite the Manchester City star helping condemn the Toffees to another defeat, the home supporters felt it was necessary to commemorate his recent achievement by sending him a boot with the inscription: “E Haaland record Premier League goals., from Everton fans.”
The Norwegian shared the award on his Instagram, saying: “Thank you.”

The section of Everton fans behind the award will be congratulated by some people within the game, but there is no doubt a larger section of supporters who will have been left very confused by the message of congratulations to a rival Premier League player.
All of the focus at Goodison Park should definitely be on one last wave of support to help save the club from a dreaded relegation to the Championship.
