Everton transfer news: Sky Sports pundit reacts as Tom Cannon could be sold amid Swansea and Preston interest
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Sean Dyche may have to sacrifice Tom Cannon in the transfer market for Everton this summer as he needs to “generate funds” accepts Kevin Campbell.
Alan Nixon had reported via Patreon on 23 April that Cannon was a “wanted man” with Swansea ready to try as hard as Preston to sign the 20-year-old, with a “cash offer” potentially on the cards.
He proved a hit at Deepdale on loan in 2023, scoring eight times in the Championship in 20 appearances to spark suggestions he might have been useful back at Goodison Park, but Sky Sports pundit Campbell expects the manager to have a decision to make if there is money on the table.

On what was the more likely course of action the Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Goodison News: “Any one of the above [stay or go] to be honest.
“If the manager wanted to have a look at him in pre-season he can, and that sometimes is the right thing to do.
“But if the manager’s got his eye on certain things, and the purse strings are a bit tighter, then he’s got to generate funds hasn’t he.
“Whichever way you look at it, the manager checking him out or the manager utilising his good form [to bring in a fee], unfortunately these are the things that have to happen at a football club.”

Fans would love to see a homegrown striker become a first-team star for Everton, and there have been encouraging signs this season from Cannon after the Australia tour and the Preston loan.
But, assuming a second relegation battle can be escaped late on, the Toffees haven’t got the luxury of a secure place in the top flight and bountiful transfer funds to keep reinforcing without making sacrifices.
Ellis Simms is another with a lot of potential, but in terms of sure-fire ability now there is a dearth at striker if Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out, so Cannon likely has to impress immediately this summer to ensure his future at Goodison Park.
