Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie reacts to ‘nasty’ Everton footage in 1-1 draw v Wolves

Lee Hendrie believes Amadou Onana was lucky not to be seriously injured after Joao Gomes’ “nasty” challenge as Everton battled to a 1-1 draw against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday.

In what was a crucial test for the Toffees in their attempts to pull four points clear of the relegation drop zone, Sean Dyche’s men rallied round to claim a crucial draw after Yerry Mina’s last-gasp equaliser.

After seeing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nathan Patterson come off with worrying injuries in the first half, Everton could well have endured another injury blow when Onana was the victim of a terrible collision after the interval.

“Onana had quite a big collision with Gomes, it was nasty,” Hendrie said live on Sky Sports News [4:10]. “I didn’t think he was going to get back up.”

Fortunate

After seeing Calvert-lewin and Patterson come off with injuries, Everton were incredibly fortunate not to see Onana suffer the same fate.

The Belgian international has proven an outstanding outlet for the Toffees in his first season at Goodison Park, despite the club’s flirtation with the Premier League drop zone.

Everton

The injuries certainly seem to be piling up for Everton, with Seamus Coleman out for the season, Vitaly Mykolenko missing the game with his own injury and the two they suffered during the game.

You’ve got to think how massive these blows could be for Everton given the fact that they also failed to pull four clear of the drop zone against an already safe Wolves side.

Dyche’s squad is incredibly depleted right now, and Everton fans may be forgiven for feeling what might have been had the former Burnley boss been backed during the January transfer window.

Worrying times with just a game left to save their season.
