Alan Shearer predicts Everton showdown v Bournemouth on final day in Premier League

Alan Shearer has backed Everton to win against Bournemouth at Goodison Park next week when the final round of Premier League fixtures are played.

Sean Dyche’s men earned a last-gasp draw at Wolves on Saturday (20 May), meaning they currently sit two points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

However, safety isn’t in the Blues’ hands right now with Leeds and Leicester, the two teams in the relegation battle with the Merseysiders, both have an extra game to play.

Regardless of results elsewhere, Shearer believes Dyche’s men will beat the Cherries on Sunday, which could give them a huge chance of staying up.

“I think Everton will win,” Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day on Saturday (20 May, 28m36s).

“I think they’ll beat Bournemouth on the last day of the season.

“Imagine the atmosphere.”

Just win

It’s simple, really.

All Everton can do now is win against Bournemouth and hope that Leeds’ and Leicester’s final two results don’t go against them in any way.

Of course, Dyche’s men can still beat the Cherries and finish 19th but we’ve left ourselves in a situation where it’s not in our hands – as it stands.

By the end of play on Monday, the chances are that it could be.

Leeds play away at a West Ham side who are high on confidence on Sunday before Leicester travel to Newcastle on Monday as the Geordies aim to seal Champions League qualification.

We predict Leeds to draw at the London Stadium and Leicester to lose at St James’ Park, which means that if we win against Bournemouth, we’re safe. No ifs and buts.

We’re all praying for a scenario like that, or one where both teams lose.

Will this Everton side rise to the occasion and play to the pressure? Or will they buckle? That late goal at Wolves was massive but was so was Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury.

It’s not going to be a stress-free week in store.
