Everton trigger one-year contract extension option in Abdoulaye Doucoure contract – Fabrizio Romano
Everton have triggered the one-year contract extension option in the contract of Abdoulaye Doucoure, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Mali international has been in superb form since the arrival of Sean Dyche in January, scoring vital goals that have helped keep Everton in the race for survival heading into the final game of the season.
But there were question marks over his long-term future at the club with his current deal set to expire, but according to Romano the club have now triggered an option to keep him at Goodison Park for another 12 months.
“Understand Everton have triggered the option clause to extend Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (22 May).
“Deal will be valid for one more year now.”
Excellent
At the start of the January window you would have been hard-pressed to find an Everton fan who really cared about the future of Doucoure at the club.
He had been frozen out of the team by Frank Lampard and was nowhere near contention with Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye, Alex Iwobi, James Garner and Tom Davies all ahead of him in the pecking order.

But since Dyche came into the club he became a key member of the team and has boosted the squad’s overall ability, commitment and quality level on the pitch.
He’s brought great leadership and while the club will undoubtedly be praying that they survive the drop, even if they get relegated they now have him committed to the club for another year.
Whether he sticks around for another year or not is a different situation, but at least we now either keep him around next year or we get a transfer fee for the player who has arguably been our most influential this season.
