Harry Redknapp predicts Everton relegation chances after 1-1 draw v Wolves, names Yerry Mina in Premier League team of the week

Harry Redknapp has named Yerry Mina in his Premier League team of the week after Everton earned a 1-1 draw against Wolves, putting their survival in their own hands.

The Toffees scored in the 100th minute at Molineux to earn a vital point, meaning they now know a victory over Bournemouth on the final day of the season will keep them in the division for next season.

And former Tottenham boss Redknapp told BetVictor (22 May) that he now fancies Everton to stay up following Mina’s goal, describing the Colombian’s performance as “colossus” in the game.

“Yerry Mina has made such a difference to this Everton side and was a colossus against Wolves,” he said.

“He was blocking shots, putting his body on the line, a really dominant centre-half performance. He’s always such a threat from set pieces and what a vital goal that could be in Everton’s season.

“I fancy them to stay up now.”

Masterstroke

We know how much Sean Dyche values physical dominance and set-piece threats, so it was a little bit bizarre that Mina wasn’t the first name on his team sheet when he joined the club.

But in recent games the former Barcelona man has finally got himself into the side and put in some brilliant performances to help put our future in our own hands.

A home game against a Bournemouth side who are already safe and have nothing to play for would have been near the top of many people’s wishlists if they were able to pick the fixture for Sunday.

It could well end up being Mina’s final game in a Toffees shirt considering his Everton contract is due to expire at the end of this season, but if he can help us stay in the Premier League then he will be remembered forever for his goal against Wolves.

He’s been brilliant and deserves the praise he’s getting, but the job isn’t done just yet.
