Anthony Gordon sends Everton message after Premier League survival secured

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has sent a seven-word message to Everton after the club secured their Premier League status on the final day of the season.

Sean Dyche’s side edged past Bournemouth 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday (28 May) thanks to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s wonder strike, finishing the season in 17th position with 36 points.

Gordon, 22, simultaneously netted his first Premier League goal since signing for the Magpies in January, and after the clash, took to Instagram (28 May) to send the Toffees his well wishes.

“Well done to everyone involved at Everton,” he posted.

Still sore

Although Everton managed to survive relegation and didn’t end up needing the former academy graduate to fire themselves away from safety, Gordon’s exit from the club still remains a little sore.

If the Toffees wish to climb back up to the upper echelons of the Premier League table, losing players of this ilk simply can’t become a trend.

As has been shown with Southampton this season, it will eventually come back to bite you if you keep selling your most lucrative assets to the Premier League’s big boys.

Considering Gordon’s exit in January and the lack of replacements who were brought into the club, the job that Sean Dyche has undertaken looks even more impressive.

The club was in tatters after the sacking of Frank Lampard in January, but Dyche has unified the fanbase and restored an element of calm at Goodison Park.

Now the challenge of navigating the summer transfer window awaits, and hopefully, Everton can bolster their first-team squad, so these final-day relegation showdowns don’t become a norm.
