Everton want to sign Manchester City starlet Shea Charles, face competition from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig

Everton are keen on signing Manchester City midfielder Shea Charles this summer, but face competition from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

The 19-year-old was named on the substitutes bench by Pep Guardiola for their final Premier League fixture of the season against Brentford, coming on for Nathan Ake just after the hour mark.

But in the search of more regular first-team football Charles looks set to leave the club this summer, with Everton among the clubs interested in signing him according to the Daily Mail (29 May).

“Everton are also keen on Manchester City’s Northern Ireland international midfielder Shea Charles,” they wrote.

“The 19-year-old was on the bench at Brentford and has admirers at Bundesliga clubs Red Bull Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund also.”

Talent

Charles is a super-talented young footballer, justified by the fact he is already a full international for Northern Ireland despite only making his top-flight debut in Sunday’s dead rubber.

Very comfortable on the ball he has also attracted interest from Leeds but with their relegation to the Championship they’re unlikely to be able to compete anymore.

It shows just how important survival was, and now we can try to compete with the two German giants to sign him up and give him the regular football he craves.

We showed with James Garner, who was in a similar position last summer, that we are willing to give young players an opportunity and with several players likely to leave this summer there will be space.

Changes are needed in the squad but also in the way the club operates, and this could be the start of something very positive to start building towards a great future.
