Jamie Carragher fires message at Everton board after what he heard at Goodison Park

Jamie Carragher believes members of the Everton board should leave their posts in the coming days after the club survived relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Sean Dyche’s side survived the drop by the skin of their teeth, picking up a hard-fought 1-0 win against Bournemouth on Sunday (29 May) to finish 17th in the Premier League.

Reacting to chants of ‘sack the board’ from the Goodison Park faithful after the full-time whistle, Sky Sports pundit Carragher fired a message at the Toffees board, saying their resignations would help restore the fractious relationship with the fanbase.

As shared via Football Daily, he said: “The majority of the supporters were screaming at the fans who had gone on [the pitch] and started singing ‘sack the board’.

“I do feel that going forward, there has got to be some sort of change at Everton.

“Whether it is some sort of minority shareholder comes in to help this year, but in terms of people who have been on the board for the past few years, I think in the next day or two, they have got to leave their posts.

“I think that is the only that they will get some backing back from some of these Everton supporters.”

Time to go

If Everton want to restore themselves to the upper echelons of the Premier League, ringing the changes in the boardroom is simply a necessity.

Speculation is still surrounding MSP Sports Capital’s interest, but the minority stake they are being tipped with buying won’t be enough.

Ever since Farhad Moshiri arrived at the club, Everton have been in decline and fast.

It is only thanks to the miraculous efforts of Sean Dyche that the Toffees aren’t in the Championship right now, and if they are to move up the Premier League in a positive manner, the first team needs serious backing in the summer transfer window.

However, with the club already in FFP troubles and still searching for investment for the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, it remains to be seen whether Everton will be able to bolster their squad adequately for the 2023/24 season.

One thing is for sure, surviving relegation hasn’t changed the Everton fanbase’s opinions on the board running their football club.
