Everton transfer news: Sky Sports pundit loves link to ‘buzzing’ Aberdeen striker Duk amid £10million verdict

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell sees plenty of logic in Everton pursuing a transfer for Aberdeen striker Duk because spending huge money on forwards is no guarantee of success.

The Toffees scouted the Dons man earlier this season [Daily Mail, 17 April] with goalscoring help a major priority at Goodison Park thanks to the ongoing injury worries around Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Sean Dyche’s side scraped Premier League safety despite a lack of options up front, but Sky Sports pundit Campbell has no problem at all with Everton looking beyond the headline targets at striker and lining up what should be a cheaper deal for the 16-goal SPFL player.

Sky Sports pundit Campbell spoke exclusively to Goodison News and said: “Maybe that’s the case [cheaper deals on the cards], but I don’t see what the problem is.

“Because you buy somebody for £50million, that doesn’t prove he’s going to do it at your club. And we’ve seen so-called lesser clubs who have come up from the Championship with so-called lesser players, do just fine in the Premier League.

“The key is the coaching, the key is the football club, and the key is have you got the right fit of players to get the results?

“At the end of the day it all comes down to results, so bringing in a striker from Scotland who’s buzzing, could hit the ground running and score 10-15 goals.

“The point is nobody knows, if he costs you £10million or he costs you £50million, 10-15 goals is good business.”

Huge money is likely going to be a struggle for Everton this summer unless they can negotiate a highly-favourable payment structure, so players in the bracket of the 23-year-old Cape Verde international could be the order of the day.

Duk had an outstanding year in Scotland, making the PFA Team of the Year after his goals helped fire Aberdeen into Europe with a third-placed finish behind Old Firm giants Celtic and Rangers.

He may not even cost close to £10million if the Dons are prepared to let him go, and if he could replicate some of his form in England it would be a sound investment, as long as he fits how Dyche wants to play with Neal Maupay having proven to be the wrong man a year ago.
