Jim White slams ‘ridiculously irrational’ Everton fans live on talkSPORT after win v Bournemouth
Jim White has slammed the “ridiculously irrational” Everton fans who stormed the pitch on the final day of the season.
Many Toffees supporters ran onto the pitch at Goodison Park following the club’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday (28 May).
Their celebrations came after Everton managed to secure their top flight safety with the victory.

“You know how ridiculously irrational it is?” White said live on talkSPORT. “Some Evertonians had been very, very sceptical as to whether or not they’d survive in the Premier League.
“They did, thanks to [Abdoulaye] Doucoure’s great goal. So at the end of it all, a bunch of them, who think, ‘I can’t stand [Farhad] Moshiri, can’t stand him. And the directors who are not here today, a bunch of empty seats.’
“And Everton survive. What goes through their minds then? The moment comes, ‘We’ve made it, I’m going on the pitch.’”

Unnecessary scenes
First and foremost, the pitch invasion really was unnecessary, with the Everton players put in immediate danger having just secured their Premier League safety for another season.
But also importantly, the storming of the pitch was really avoidable, with Toffees ace Dwight McNeil disagreeing with the decision from many fans to take to the field at Goodison Park.
Such comments come due to the nature of the victory, with understandable delight in the air, but such delight should really be overshadowed by sheer relief, at least from the point of view of the players, coaches and board members.
While dangerous, pitch invasions are understandable if clubs pull off miracles or clinch major successes, such as the recent play-off matches.
But Everton’s situation did not call for such a scenario, with a huge amount of work needing to be done now to ensure it is not repeated once again next season, having been involved in a relegation battle for two campaigns in a row.
