Everton have ‘already tested’ Salernitana for midfielder Lassana Coulibaly ahead of summer transfer

Everton are among the clubs that have “already tested” Salernitana over a summer transfer for midfielder Lassana Coulibaly, according to Tutto Salernitana.

The Toffees avoided relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season and are now looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.

And while the club have prioritised the attacking department of the squad, reports in Italy suggest the club are looking at Mali international Coulibaly for their midfield.

“In France Monaco and Olympique Marseille have already tested the ground in the past and could return to the assault in these days, as well as Nottingham Forest and Everton,” they wrote (5 June).

Brighton have also been credited with an interest, with Roberto Di Zerbi interested in signing a “dynamic all-rounder”.

Bye bye Gueye?

Could this be the end of Idrissa Gueye in a blue shirt after his brilliant return last season to Goodison Park?

Gueye was a regular in the side last season and performed well after signing from Paris Saint-Germain, but at 33-years-old he can’t run forever.

Playing at the base of midfield and using his energy to burst forward is something that Coulibaly could provide and for longer considering he is only 27 years old.

He has proven to be able to be reliable over the course of the season too having racked up 35 appearances in Serie A and his all-rounder ability is something that would slot in perfectly with the way that Dyche likes to play.

It could be beginning of the end for Gueye but the start of a new chapter for Everton and Coulibaly. We just have to hope that he does better than Jean-Philippe Gbamin did when he arrived.
