Sean Dyche could axe Idrissa Gueye as Everton step up transfer pursuit of Angers midfielder Batista Mendy
Everton, along with Newcastle and Wolves are reportedly keen on signing Angers midfielder Batista Mendy in the transfer window.
According to L’Equipe [07 June], the Ligue 2 side are looking for a fee in the region of £5million to part ways with the 23-year-old.
They got relegated from the top flight this past season and the French midfielder is understood to want out of the club once the window opens.

It’s also been reported that the Toffees will be looking to negotiate with the French side in order to bring down the asking fee.
Should Mendy join, it’s almost certain that Sean Dyche will be parting ways with Idrissa Gana Gueye who’s 33 and not quite the man to start week in and week out.
The Senegal international was signed last summer and will turn 34 in September – which is not an ideal age for a midfielder.
Had he been a generational talent who looked after himself impeccably like Luka Modric, it would’ve been fine, but there does seem to be a need to replace him.

James Garner also showed just how important he can be towards the back end of the campaign and he may be ahead of Gueye in the pecking order.
Mendy is a midfielder who’s capable of playing as a centre-back too and the expectation is that if he signs, he will be playing as the deepest of three midfielders.
He could also be a ball carrier and give Everton flexibility with and without the ball as Dyche may look to become more attack-minded now that survival does not have the be the first thing on his mind.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Gueye amid this recent transfer development.
