Everton loanee Jarrad Branthwaite is open to leaving the club following his loan spell at PSV

Jarrad Branthwaite has expressed that he is open to leaving Everton and making his stay at PSV permanent in an interview with Voetbal Primeur on 7 June.

Everton rejected a £15mliion bid from PSV for Branthwaite, 20, during January, as reported by the Daily Mail (8 February) after the defender made an impressive start to his loan spell with the Dutch club.

However, the Englishman has now given PSV hope in their pursuit of the player during a recent interview.

“That is always difficult to say as a professional football player. I am under contract with Everton, so it is their right not to want to sell me, of course. I am absolutely open to staying at PSV, but then the clubs have to come out together.” Branthwaite said.

The 6ft5 centre-back has impressed during his time on loan, featuring 37 times for the club (transfermrkt) and playing 120 minutes in the Dutch Cup final as his side beat rivals Ajax on penalties to lift the trophy.

Where next for Branthwaite?

While the defender, who joined the Blues from Carlisle in 2020, is open to a move away from Goodison this summer, Sean Dyche may have different ideas for the young defender.

After surviving a relegation scare for the second season running, Dyche may be looking to refresh his squad in order to avoid another relegation-threatened season, and the impressive performances of Branthwaite might have caught his eye.

At just 20 years of age, the defender has gained some valuable experience in a tough European league where he lifted a trophy, and he could bring that experience back to his parent club.

Also, following the departures of Yerry Mina and Conor Coady, Everton will be in need of defensive reinforcements ahead of next season and might already have one under their noses.

Turning down the bid from PSV in January is perhaps a sign that the Toffees have no intention of letting him go and at the moment, it seems more likely that Branthwaite will return to England and the Premier League rather than stay at PSV.

In other Everton news, a defender who has already departed the club already has offers lined up.
