Sporting Lisbon could miss out on Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres as Everton eye move
Sporting Lisbon could miss out on Coventry City’s Viktor Gyökeres as Everton eye a summer deal, according to Portuguese news outlet, O Jogo.
O Jogo report on 7 June that The Primeira Liga side are in talks with Gyokeres’ agent. It’s believed the Sky Blues are looking for £17million for the striker. However, it’s understood that interest from English teams will be hard to compete with for Sporting.
According to the Record (03 June, page 12), Everton and Newcastle are in hot pursuit for the 25-year-old Swedish hotshot.
In-demand
It’s fair to say Gyokeres is a man in demand at present. The Sweden international has been one of the standout performers in the Championship and is now destined for bigger and better things. Coventry will play hardball when it comes to their star man, but his contract situation is something to pay attention to.
His current deal comes to a close in the summer of 2024, and it’s highly unlikely the Sky Blues will be willing to let their talisman depart for nothing next year. That would be foolish in a business sense. If they sell this summer, there’s a chance they will be able to reinvest to mount another promotion push.

Gyokeres is exactly the type of player Everton need to be targeting. He’s a good age, has been prolific in the second tier and could develop further. The Toffees desperately need a proven goalscorer. Ellis Simms has been thrown in at the deep end and Dominic Calvert-Lewin cannot stay fit for a continued run of games.
