Everton under pressure to sell Amadou Onana in Goodison Park transfer news

Everton are under pressure to sell star asset Amadou Onana this summer due to ongoing financial problems at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old, who signed from Lille for £34million last summer, is the only outfield player at Everton who could reap a significant transfer fee, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal already expressing interest in the midfielder’s services.

The Daily Mail report states that the Toffees are currently in “special measures” with the Premier League after losses exceeding £370million over the last three years.

And although they sold Anthony Gordon to Newcastle for £45million in the January transfer window, another major sale is required this summer.

These financial problems are set to hinder Sean Dyche’s summer rebuild at Goodison Park after avoiding relegation from the Premier League on the last day of the season.

Big blow

Onana has shown glimpses of being a potential superstar at Everton over the last year, and his sale this summer would be a sucker punch to the club’s long-term plans.

At just 21, the Belgian international still has plenty of room for growth and looks like the kind of player who Dyche would ideally want to build his team around.

However, the ongoing issues with the ownership of the Merseyside club and the subsequent FFP investigation have left the club walking a tightrope this summer.

Frustratingly for Dyche, it looks like he will have to part ways with the likes of Onana and Jordan Pickford in order to mould the first-team squad to his needs.

This would not have been the original plan, but does he have any other options?

Everton continued to be run through the gutter by Farhad Moshiri, and this is yet another indirect consequence of his terrible leadership at the top of the club.
