Everton transfer news as ‘no way back’ verdict shared on ‘clumsy’ £120,000-a-week man Andre Gomes
There is “surely no way back” at Everton for midfielder Andre Gomes, according to the Liverpool Echo’s Chris Beesley.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Lille, where he made 27 appearances in all competitions.
It remains uncertain where his future lies, with Gomes contracted with Everton until the summer of 2024.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo, Beesley noted that there is “surely no way back” for Gomes at Everton now.
“Here was a supposed creative force who totalled just one goal and four assists in 88 Premier League games but couldn’t provide an effective shield in front of his defence either with his clumsy tackling producing 19 yellow cards.
“Turning 30 next month, Gomes is understood to command a hefty £120,000-a-week salary which could prove difficult for Everton to get off the wage bill.”

Everton future uncertain
Gomes is very much the forgotten man at Goodison Park, with the midfielder not thought about in England this season given his temporary spell in France.
He has since returned to Merseyside, but his future is very much up in the air, with nobody quite sure what Toffees boss Sean Dyche has planned for the Portuguese midfielder.
Gomes impressed in blue once upon a time, but fans fear that the consistent player that they once knew is now gone following his very unfortunate ankle injury, which kept him sidelined for several months.
Given that Dyche may lose star midfielder Amadou Onana this summer, it would be wise to keep Gomes at the club for the time being, with other reinforcements brought in first before letting the Portugal man leave, either temporarily or on a permanent basis.
It would, however, make financial sense for the Toffees to offload him in the coming months for a fee, rather than lose him for nothing upon the expiry of this contract next summer.
