Everton start move in talks for Bramley-Moore Dock stadium already

Everton could be set for an intriguing split-season with two different home venues after talks commenced over a move-in date for the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Caution has been advised over aspirations to start the 2024/25 season at the new venue and instead, a new year switch for the mid-way point in that campaign has been mooted, as things stand.

The stadium contractors, Laing O’Rourke, are on schedule with their working calendar which is moving toward a handover of the site by the end of next year.

The report from Chris Beesley outlined the current state of play on what will be a historic change for all Evertonians.

“So far the project has not been unduly hampered by adverse weather conditions but with another winter yet to negotiate, Blues staff remain wary not to over-promise and under-deliver in terms of making firm predictions over timescales given the issues that inevitably arise with such major developments,” he said.

“The ECHO understands that contractors Laing O’Rourke are working to a timetable that ends in December 2024 and as things stand, Everton are looking to be in a position to be able to depart Goodison Park by the turn of the calendar year going into 2025.”

Recent example

Mid-season or starting afresh for the following campaign, it remains to be seen exactly when the club will depart Goodison Park to move into the brand new stadium at Bramley-Moore dock.

It is clear that the completion won’t happen for the next season, one year from now, so there is no immediate need to rush.

Such a move will cause upheaval on and off the pitch, so it may well be better to hold off for the start of the 2025/26 season but that remains to be seen.

From the recent example of Tottenham’s move into their completely revamped home ground, after a temporary stay at Wembley, it is important that Everton learn from it.

As highlighted in the article, it is essential that there are no undue delays and with a need for test events to take place before the new build is ready for real action, the signs at this stage point to waiting for two full seasons from now unless cast-iron guarantees can be met.
