Sean Dyche has held talks with Dele Alli over Everton future as £10m development emerges – Paul Joyce

Sean Dyche has held talks with Dele Alli over his future at Everton heading into the 2023/24 season, according to a report by Paul Joyce (13 June).

The Toffees signed Dele on a free transfer in January 2022, with clauses that could see the fee rise to up to £40m depending on a number of clauses including appearances.

But Dele was loaned to Besiktas last season after falling out of favour with Frank Lampard but struggled in Turkey before returning with a hip injury that ruled him out for the end of the season.

There have been question marks surrounding his future at Goodison Park as he enters the final 12 months of his contract, but a report in The Times claims Dyche has already held talks with the player and there could be a way back into the fold for him.

“Sean Dyche believes that Dele Alli still wishes to push himself,” Joyce wrote.

“Dyche has already held talks with Dele who is set to return to Finch Farm this pre-season. If Dele plays 7 more games for Everton they will have to pay Tottenham £10m.”

Surprising

Everton need numbers in attack, but Dele hasn’t shown anything in the last three years or so to suggest that he is the same player who burst onto the scene as a youngster and looked like one of the best in the world.

At his peak he was an elite goalscoring midfielder and if he was somehow able to rediscover that form this season then he would no doubt be an incredible asset to Dyche’s team.

Having brought Abdoulaye Doucoure back in from the cold and turned him into a key player in the second half of the season to save us from relegation, Dyche clearly sees something he can work with.

There had been talk that Dele would look to leave the club and Everton wouldn’t stand in his way, even potentially ripping up his contract, but that could now be off the table if Dyche wants him to stick around.

There is still a long way to go in the transfer window and anything can happen, but it’s clear that the door isn’t completely closed on a return to the pitch for Dele.
