Everton transfer news: ‘Torrid’ Jean-Philippe Gbamin to make permanent exit after unbelievable situation – Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell agrees it makes sense for Jean-Philippe Gbamin to leave Everton this summer after a “torrid” time at Goodison Park.
The Ivorian has been at the club for four seasons after a £25million move Mainz but amid dreadful injury luck he has only made eight first-team appearances, and has spent the past season and a half on loan at first CSKA Moscow and then Trabzonspor, with agent Bernard Collingnon telling BBC Sport (30 May) that he doesn’t want to come back to the “nightmare” at Everton because it is “unbelievable what has happened” in his time there.
Campbell is convinced the midfielder needs to move on as well to “rebuild” his career after finally getting some more regular run outs in Turkey over the past year – 24 total appearances.

“Yeah I think it makes sense, he’s had a torrid time at Everton,” the Sky Sports pundit said, speaking exclusively to Goodison News.
“He’s gone away and he’s played some games, which is great for him.
“He just wants to rebuild his career doesn’t he? So yeah I think that makes sense.”

It is as much down to injury as it is a misjudgement in the transfer market but Gbamin, 27, is one of many signings who have arrived for big money during the recent past and not been able to pay back the fee on the pitch.
He still has time to establish himself somewhere else but is surely going to leave for a huge loss compared to his big money fee in 2019, and with just a year left on his deal he might even represent an accounting loss too as he would struggle to command a £5million exit fee.
As with a lot at Goodison currently it might have to get worse before it gets better, but clearing out players who have no future has to happen before Sean Dyche can properly restock with his own men.
It says something that Idrissa Gana Gueye, the man Gbmain was signed to replace, spent three years at PSG, came back last summer, and then surpassed the Ivorian’s total appearances in just the past season, so a new start is badly needed.
