Everton transfer news: Sean Dyche decision may see £60m Manchester United target Amadou Onana sold – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell would “100%” like to see Everton avoid selling Amadou Onana this summer but feels Sean Dyche might view the money it would bring in as “more important”.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 19 April that the Toffees would find it “very difficult” to keep hold of the Belgian midfielder, a day after CBS journalist Ben Jacobs had suggested a £60million fee could be enough to land the him amid interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.

David Ornstein has since reported in The Athletic (8 June) that the 21-year-old is on Manchester United’s list during the transfer window, and with the finances thought to be tight at Goodison Park Campbell thinks it might be a sacrifice Sean Dyche makes in the same way Richarlison was sold a year ago.

The Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Goodison News: “I’d like to see it avoided, 100%, but Everton – their finances, FFP – you have to box clever.

“Sean Dyche might find that he’s a good player but the desire to create a transfer pot is more important.

“Nothing against the player, just like there was nothing against Richarlison, but the fact of the matter is to create a transfer pot so he can actually dip into it and bring some new bodies in is more important to Sean Dyche probably.”

Richarlison’s exit a year ago kept the wolves from the door financially, and allowed Frank Lampard to bring some players in – most notably Onana.

But it didn’t stop Everton going one step closer to relegation this year, only escaping on the final day of the season.

So if Dyche does make the difficult choice to let last summer’s headline arrival become this summer’s headline departure he will need to make doubly sure that he subsequently strengthens in the right way in order to prevent the club going through a third battle against the drop.
