Nerves emerge at Everton after latest FFP charge news – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted that there will be a sense of nervousness at Everton after the latest news on their FFP charge hearing with the Premier League.

The Guardian has reported that the hearing has now been set for October, with months to go until the Toffees find out if they will face any punishment.

The finance expert admitted that although that gives the club time to gather more evidence, there will be nervousness surrounding potential points deductions.

“It gives you more time to get the evidence together and all the information,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“They will be using the time accordingly but there will, of course, be a nervousness to it. There is a case to answer there and it will be for the Premier League to decide, we’ve seen them be more harder in their stance over the past few months.

It is a bit of both, it gives the club more time to prepare but they will be nervous too and that probably translates to a on-pitch deduction, as we have seen, precarious on-pitch performance at Everton over the last few years, a points deduction would have probably meant relegation so that will be the big nervousness around it.”

Should any punishment fall on the club, it would be the fault of Farhad Moshiri, there is no doubt about that.

Points deductions in the past two seasons would likely have relegated Everton from the Premier League, so that would be the worst-case scenario.

Hopefully, the Blues come out of the other side of this with positive news – fingers crossed.
