Fears emerge as Sunderland open talks to sign Everton striker Ellis Simms amid Blackburn and Ipswich links
Sunderland have reportedly opened talks to sign Everton striker Ellis Simms but there are fears about whether or not the deal will go over the line.
According to the Liverpool Echo [24 June], senior officials at the Black Cats are worried that they may be priced out of the deal by another club.
Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town are the other clubs understood to be in the mix for the 22-year-old this summer.

Keep as a backup?
Simms has spent time on loan at Sunderland where he’s impressed so there are no surprises that they want him back at the club.
Blackburn and Ipswich will also be aware of what he brings to the table and will have witnessed firsthand the impact he can have in the Championship.
However, it’s not like Everton have the deepest of squads this summer and can do with having Simms on as a backup.

Neal Maupay was signed last summer and has been a flop so the club can at least make some money from his sale and must look to cash in on him in the coming weeks.
Simms is just 22 and not the finished article yet so he can stay on at Goodison Park and learn a few things from Sean Dyche who’s known to improve players.
He’s shown to make an impact off the bench as well so he can be used in that role for the upcoming season.
In other Everton news, a star player is very unhappy at the club and has made it clear that he wants to leave Goodison Park for good this summer.
