James Garner sends two-word message to former Everton star Anthony Gordon

James Garner has sent a two-word message to former Everton and current Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon.

The duo both started for England Under-21s as they defeated Israel 2-0 in the European Under-21 Championship 2023 on Sunday (25 June).

Former Toffees ace Gordon opened the scoring after 16 minutes, with the Three Lions securing a spot in the last eight of the competition with the win.

Sharing an image with England teammate and Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, Gordon posted on Instagram: “Top of the group and into the quarters.”

Everton ace Garner replied: “Good you.”

Strong start

England Under-21s have made a very strong start to the tournament, winning both of their matches so far 2-0, having first defeated the Czech Republic on Thursday (22 June).

The victories mean Lee Carsley’s side have clinched a spot in the next round with a game to spare, with the nation taking on Germany in their final group game on Wednesday (28 June).

Arsenal ace Emile Smith-Rowe has now netted in both matches as the country look to bring the title home to England. Both Gordon and Garner have also been key, with the latter playing every minute possible so far.

Making his feat more impressive is that he is playing in a somewhat unfamiliar right-back role, having been used to playing in central midfield for Everton.

His displays in the current international break will no doubt be closely followed by Toffees manager Sean Dyche, who could rely on the youngster at right-back next season if the likes of Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson continue to struggle with injury.

In other Everton news, one exit-bound Toffees player has spoken out as finances get in the way of his Goodison stay.
