Everton need to start talks ASAP or run the risk of losing out on Viktor Gyokeres
Mike McGrath has provided an update on the future of Everton target Viktor Gyokeres.
Coventry striker Gyokeres has been widely linked with a move to Goodison, with the Daily Mail reporting (26 June) that the Toffees have an interest in the Swedish striker.
However, Sean Dyche’s side face competition and a recent update by Daily Telegraph reporter McGrath suggests the Premier League side must move fast or they will risk losing out on their target to competition from abroad.
“Sporting Lisbon in talks over Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres with confidence growing over a deal being struck for the Sweden forward,” McGrath tweeted (27 June).
With Sporting CP stepping up their pursuit of the 25-year-old, Everton will now need to make a swift decision over whether or not they are serious about landing their striking target. If they are, now is the time to act.
The club are desperate for goals after scoring just 34 times in the league last season, the second-fewest amount after Wolves, with their paltry tally seeing them almost relegated.
Gyokeres will certainly provide goals. The Coventry striker scored 21 times in the Championship last season as the Sky Blues narrowly missed out on promotion, losing the play-off final on penalties to Luton Town.

Sporting CP could use their position in the Europa League next season to entice Gyokeres into a move, but Everton’s place in the Premier League may prove more tempting.
Whatever happens, with McGrath suggesting that confidence is growing over a deal being struck, Everton may not have much more time to make their move. With the club’s current mess in the boardroom, a deal may be difficult to get sanctioned in time and Dyche might well miss out on this promising goal threat.
In other Everton news, another surprise striking target from the Championship has emerged.
