Everton transfer news: Sean Dyche will be fuming at Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres to Sporting development
Sporting CP appear to have beaten Everton to the signing of Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window.
The Toffees board did not sign a new striker in January and appear to be letting Sean Dyche down once again a few months later.
The Everton boss will surely be fuming at the lack of urgency shown by the club which will have seen them missing out another target.
UOL journalist Bruno Andrade wrote on Twitter, “Gyokeres: Sporting advanced to close the contract for 20 M € + 35% of future sale. Recent change of managers (Nordic Sky to HCM Sports) of the Swedish striker made the process accelerate this week. Lions are very confident in hiring.”
O Jogo newspaper [20 June, page 13] revealed that the Toffees had submitted a bid for the Swedish striker and it was turned down by Coventry.
Rather than doubling down on their interest and opening talks with the Championship club over a suitable fee, Everton did not end up doing anything.

This has seen Sporting steal a march on them and it now seems like they will be winning the race to sign the coveted Sweden international.
With 21 goals in the league last season, the 25-year-old would certainly have been devastating playing in a Dyche system that would’ve ensured that the entire attack was built around getting the best out of him.
Unlike Dominic Calvert-Lewin, his fitness record is also exceptional and he would’ve been a regular starter for the Toffees.
In Everton news, Alan Myers has shared a major update on Sean Dyche’s future after a development over his sacking has emerged over the past few days.
